Online Inspection of Bicycle Cassette Dimensions
Background of the Application
A leading Tier-1 bicycle component manufacturer faced new inspection challenges as gear ratios increased—resulting in multi-layer cassettes with narrower gaps between layers. Traditional CMM probes could no longer reach critical features, making optical image measurement the only viable option. Conventional CMM inspection of all dimensions for a single cassette took over 30 minutes, slowing production and limiting quality control responsiveness.
Solution
USDV deployed its TIMI6050 telecentric imaging module to design a dedicated horizontal cassette inspection system for cassettes up to Ø150 mm (D) × 50 mm (H). The system performs non-contact, high-precision measurement of all required dimensions directly on the production line, eliminating CMM accessibility limitations while supporting real-time, full inspection.
